Maomao | The Apothecary Diaries

Maomao spends her time researching plants and formulating new medicine. I like that she's not particularly concerned much about appearances, but devotes her time for activities that increase her knowledge and ultimately helps other people. She's more of a detective than an apothecary in most episodes, maybe that's why I kept watching. 😅
Illustration Notes
Tools: Mijello Mission Gold • Hahnemühle Square Watercolour Book • VSCO
My friend Hanna bought this Mijello set for me when she visited South Korea. That was a million years ago. I did not use the tubes for almost a year so I made swatches first just to check if I can still use them. Thank God, it's only the indigo paint that's not usable anymore. It turned black. 😅
The paint dries quickly on Hahnemühle paper as compared to the Khadi paper. This is helpful for me because I am now trying my best to exercise patience while waiting for the paint to dry.
I don't know if the paint looks darker on this paper as well. Maybe it's the paper color? Or the paint's "age"? Or maybe it's my own brushing technique. I only painted a handful in the last five years so I guess I have changed.
Speaking of change, I love my current brushes, Rembrandt Pure Kolinsky Series 100. I bought them from Deovir. The salesperson recommended them along with the Koh-I-Noor Hardtmuth 1900 Toison d'Or pencil. I feel like I have better control. 👌
Again, so many things changed, especially me. For that, I am grateful.
